New Year Notebook & Calendar Freebie!

For 2013, I'm keeping a notebook of gratitude, writing down 3 things each day for which I'm thankful. I'm writing more about what's on my list and why I'm doing this on my personal blog. Here, I'm sharing the journal I made for this adventure.

I knew that it would be easier for me to keep up with my commitment if I had a specific place to track my list. So because I love pretty things, I made this ring journal. The calendar pages are made with Captivating 2012: December by Captivated Visions and the Calendar font (available free at FontSpace.) Most pages are 3x5 cards, and the covers are made from chipboard, the covered with some graphics I printed from free downloads available at aholyexperience.com:

Since I was creating calendar pages for myself, I packed them up as a free download for you. These are sized for my project, so each calendar is about 2.5" x 2.75". In months where only the last 1-2 days wrapped onto a line, I combined  mine, but I also created a version that is not combined. For example, here are the two grids for June 2013:

Birthday Card | Quick Print Hybrid

This is another card I made to be easily printed at home. This one is a birthday card for someone I work with who does the IT work. (You know this guy, he's the one you call with the words "Help me, please!")

This card is one of the reasons I try to add interesting things to my scrap stash. This computer doodle is from a kit called "Techno Girl" by Pixel Gypsy (kit now retired). Originally it had a heart in the middle of the screen, but I photoshopped a swatch of grey paper from the kit on to the screen and added the words to make a simple custom birthday card.

Thank You Card | Quick Print Hybrid

Sometimes I just need a card QUICK, so I design something that can be easily printed at home and comes out of the printer ready to send. Many hybrid cards I design with the intention of embellishing them by cutting extra pieces, adding buttons or ribbon, etc. But I don't always have time for that. The best part about these cards is that I can save the design and use it again and again.

I've made a couple of these recently, and will share them this week. This one is a simple Thank You note. To make this design, I used the font Pass the Chex from Kevin and Amanda, and also a free arrow shape built into Photoshop. Add some color, print, and it's done. Easy!

(Card finished size is 5.5" x 4.25".)

Altered Composition Book | Hybrid

I recently created a Library Lending Journal by altering a Composition book. I created a new custom cover and presented the finished project as a birthday gift.

"bee Happy" Card | May 2012 (and Freebie Link!)

I scrapped! And I love the bright, sunny yellow in this card, and the super-trendy yellow/gray combination. This is made with a kit called "Bee Happy" by Danielle Engebretson designs. I actually saw a paper card made with this general layout on Pinterest, and made a digi design based on it.

So not only did I scrap, but I created a template for this card design, and it is available for FREE on the The Hybrid Chick blog for their May Card Challenge. Head over there to grab the template!

ABC Book | Christmas 2010

I've been doing a lot of organizing of my files on my computer and online. I've have tons of projects I completed over the last 6 months or so that never made it on to the blog, so I'm picking some of them for new posts, since I've cut back on how much scrapping I'm doing right now.

This book was a looooooooooong time in the making. I started it last spring, and finally finished it just a day or two before Christmas when I gave it to my nephew as a gift. The book contains a page for every letter of the alphabet, and two pages at the end show counting from 1-10. Since it's so long, I thought I'd experiment with a slideshow on this post. Here goes!

Flower Candle | Hybrid

This was easier than it looks!!!

Recipe for a cute hybrid project:


1 - 3" square jar candle
4 - large hearts punched out of pink/yellow paper (approximately 1 3/4" x 1 1/2")
4 - large hearts of white printed paper
5 - small hearts punched out of red printed paper (approximately 1/2" x 1")
1 - 2" circle of paper
1 - 1"x11" strip of printed paper for the band
1 - button, about 1/2"-3/4" diameter
3-4" narrow white ribbon

First, glue the band around the candle. The 11" wasn't quite enough to go all the way around, but the place that is not covered by the band is where the flower is glued on.

Next, use the 2" circle of paper as the base for the flower, and the first layer is made from the pink/yellow paper hearts. Cut a slit in the heart, about halfway up from the point, and overlap the now two points and glue them. This will give your "flower petal" some dimension, and you can fold/wrinkle/bend it as you like. Repeat for 3 more pin petals, and glue them on to the 2" paper base.

Next is the 4 hearts from the white printed paper. First, cut across the heart, removing the point, about 1/3 of the height of the heart. Then, like with the pink "petals," cut a slit, overlap the bottom sections, and fold/wrinkle. Then glue these on top of the pink hearts.

Last, is the 5 red hearts. This was made from a smaller, narrower heart shape in my example, so you may or may not want to cut the point of the heart off before shaping them, just like the larger heart-petals. Layer these on top of the flower.

String the ribbon through the button and tie a bow, trimming the ends of the ribbon to your liking, then glue the button on top of all the heart petals to hide the unfinished edges.

Last step! Glue the entire heart on to the candle, and done!

Coffee Card Challenge | Hybrid

I've definitely been busy scrapping this month, and my poor blog has been neglected. I'll do some catching up soon! One thing that kept me busy was creating my first card template for a challenge over at ScrapMatters. Anyone who knows me knows that I love my coffee, so what could be better than a card shaped like a coffee cup?

Sand Art Brownies | Hybrid

I've been busy cranking out the hybrid projects... but I actually did a digital scrapbook page today that I can post on Wednesday.

I've made Sand Art Brownies before, they make great gifts! I decided to make one as a gift last week, and then I dressed up the jar with some fun digi papers and some bright red ribbon.

Chores Organizer

I made this project for my sister-in-law. She was looking for a way to keep track of her list of household chores, so I created this box and tabs. Every chore gets written on an index card, and then filed by day or month according to when it needs to be done next. Some chores get done every week, of course (OK, in a perfect world!) and others only need to be done once a month or a few times a year.
